The American Red Cross in Wisconsin is urging blood and platelet donors to give now to help fight the potential impact of seasonal illnesses including a potentially severe flu season on the blood supply. Red Cross spokeswoman Laura McGuire says when seasonal illnesses increase the number of healthy donors tends to decrease, leaving the Red Cross blood supply vulnerable. Donors, especially those with type O blood and those giving platelets can help bolster the blood supply now by making an appointment to give in the coming weeks.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
