Thursday is the annual Great American Smokeout. The event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, encourages people who smoke to quit, even if it’s just one day. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller while fewer teens are smoking, unfortunately vaping has become a big problem. The Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line provides free help and medications. The number is 1-800-QUIT NOW.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
