Former Fond du Lac state senator Randy Hopper has announced he is running for the state senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican state senator Alberta Darling. Hopper lives in River Hills, but was a Fond du Lac resident when he was first elected to the 18th Senate District in 2008. He was defeated in a recall election by Democrat Jessica King in August 2011. Hopper was one of six Republican senators to face a recall election following the passage of Act 10 that stripped most public workers of their collective bargaining rights.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
