12-20-22 chimney fires

With frigid weather in the forecast Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is reminding residents with wood burning fireplaces to make sure they are taking steps to prevent a chimney fire.   Firefighters were called over the weekend and quickly extinguished a chimney fire  in Brandon before it caused extensive damage.   Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue assistant chief Garth Schumacher says chimney flues should be inspected every year.  “Make sure they’re clean and there’s no creosote build-up,”  Schumacher told WFDL news.  Schumacher says also make sure you’re not overloading the fireplace with too many logs.
