Fond du Lac city officials want residents to know that when it snows using more salt doesn't actually make streets or sidewalks safer.  This is Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week.   Fond du Lac Operations superintendent Adam Schmitt says municipalities across the state are dialing in salt use through improved mechanical removal, calibration and the precision application of deicers.  Schmitt says road salt poses threats to rivers, lakes, drinking water, and infrastructure.

1-26-23 fatal crash update-fdl county sheriff ryan waldschmidt

Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt released a statement Wednesday evening regarding a fatal crash on Golf Course Drive this month involving three teenagers from Fond du Lac County.  The crash claimed the lives of the driver and front seat passenger.  The rear seat passenger received non life-threatening injuries.   The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has been informed that the driver in the January 21st crash died […]

1-26-23 fdl duplex fire displaces tennants

Nobody was injured in an apartment fire in Fond du Lac.  Shortly before 7:30pm Wednesday firefighters were called to 171 East Johnson Street and  quickly extinguished a fire in a lower apartment unit.  The tennants were cooking on the stove when the fire broke out in the kitchen.  The fire caused moderate damage to the lower unit and light smoke damage to the upper unit.  Eight tennants in both the lower and upper  apartment […]

MADISON, Wis., (AP) — The state Department of Natural Resources' new secretary says combating water pollution is his top priority. Adam Payne attended his first meeting of the DNR's policy board Wednesday. 1-26-23 local unemployment continues to drop

The local unemployment rate continues to fall.   The Fond  du Lac County jobless rate was 1.8 percent in December, down  from 2.2 percent in November.  The unemployment rate in Dodge County fell two-tenths of a percent to two percent.  The city of Fond du Lac's jobless rate was 2.2 percent last month, down from 2.4 percent in November.

(AP) — A former University of Wisconsin football player has been convicted of two counts of first degree homicide and other charges Tuesday in the February 2020 shooting deaths of two women.
