Fond du Lac city officials want residents to know that when it snows using more salt doesn't actually make streets or sidewalks safer. This is Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week. Fond du Lac Operations superintendent Adam Schmitt says municipalities across the state are dialing in salt use through improved mechanical removal, calibration and the precision application of deicers. Schmitt says road salt poses threats to rivers, lakes, drinking water, and infrastructure.

Nobody was injured in an apartment fire in Fond du Lac. Shortly before 7:30pm Wednesday firefighters were called to 171 East Johnson Street and quickly extinguished a fire in a lower apartment unit. The local unemployment rate continues to fall. The Fond du Lac County jobless rate was 1.8 percent in December, down from 2.2 percent in November. The unemployment rate in Dodge County fell two-tenths of a percent to two percent. The city of Fond du Lac's jobless rate was 2.2 percent last month, down from 2.4 percent in November.
The Rosendale Brandon School District superintendent says referendum questions on the April ballot will help ensure the District continues to provide a safe and positive learning experience for students and staff.
