One person was seriously injured and another person escaped injury in two separate alcohol-related snowmobile crashes in Fond du Lac County over the weekend. A 69 year old Menasha man was flown by helicopter to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah after he lost control of a snowmobile while trying to cross Highway HHH near County Highway G in the town of Calumet. The snowmobile struck the road at the crossing causing the snowmobile to stop and the operator to fall off his snowmobile over his handlebars landing on the road. He was wearing a helmet. The crash happened shortly before 6:30pm Saturday. Shortly before 3pm Saturday a 31 year old Fond du Lac man was rescued by bystanders after his snowmobile broke through thin ice a few hundred feet from the lighthouse at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park. Witnesses claimed the snowmobile was traveling approximately 10 mph when it broke through thin ice into the water. Dispatch was notified that operator of the snowmobile was still in the water. Bystanders were able to throw a rescue line and assisted the operator from the water and safely onto shore. He was treated and released at the scene. Both operators were cited for operating a snowmobile under the influence.
