A Green Lake County project is one of more than 70 applications received by the state Public Service Commission requesting a total of nearly $74 million for the state Broadband Expansion Grant Program. The Brightspeed project will be designed to reach 40 businesses, and 853 residential customers in Brooklyn, Green Lake, Kingston, Macford, Manchester, Markesan and Ripon. The project is asking for $535,000 in grant money. The Commission is expected to award up to $14.1 million to help expand high-speed broadband Internet in the state.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
