Tori Smith has been crowned Miss Fond du Lac 2023. The 2021 graduate of Oakfield High School celebrated her birthday Friday and was crowned during the Miss Fond du Lac pageant held Saturday. “I never go into it (pageant) expecting to win,” Smith told WFDL news. “I always go in knowing that it’s going to be a great experience. Some of the smartest, nicest, most talented women I’ve met are through the Miss America organization.” Smith’s platform is “Your World, Your Voice.” Smith says her platform encourages others to speak up for what they believe in and not be afraid to stand up and speak your mind. Smith will compete in the Miss Wisconsin pageant in June. Naomi Ochs was crowned Miss Fond du Lac Teen 2023 and Alexis Ullrich is Miss Foot of the Lake Teen 2023.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
