3-3-23 uw system leader will ask regents for 5% tuition increase

todayMarch 2, 2023

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — University of Wisconsin System President Jay Rothman says he will ask regents to approve a 5% tuition increase for the next academic year. Rothman told the state Assembly’s universities committee on Thursday that he will ask regents to approve the request at their meeting in April. Rothman told the committee the increase will ensure that the system can continue to offer students a world-class education. He is requesting the increase after learning that Gov. Tony Evers’ state budget would give the system about $130 million less than what regents wanted. If regents approve the increase, it would mark the first time UW System tuition for in-state undergraduates has gone up in a decade.
