The iconic Hotel Retlaw in downtown Fond du Lac is celebrating a major milestone. A centennial celebration was held Friday night for the hotel that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Eight years ago the hotel was struggling financially and closed it’s doors for a year. But a $30 million renovation project brought the hotel back to life, restoring the hotel to its original grandeur. Built by Walter Schroeder in 1923 the Retlaw has hosted a number of famous guests over the years including president John F. Kennedy, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, boxer Jack Dempsey and entertainer Roy Rogers.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
