3-27-23 fentanyl crisis

The Lake Winnebago Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group Drug Unit says fentanyl is the number one drug threat in the Fox Valley.   MEG unit representatives were joined by Wisconsin Attorney general Josh Kaul at a press conference Thursday afternoon in Oshkosh to highlight the fentanyl crisis.   According to the MEG unit there was a more than 4,000 percent increase in the amount of fentanyl seized last year compared to 2021.  Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says most of the drugs are pouring across the southern border.  Waldschmidt says he is asking the county to consider using federal opioid settlement funds to hire a second full-time undercover MEG unit investigator who will focus on opioid cases.
