Madison… Senator Joan Ballweg’s (R-Markesan) first bill of the 2023-2024 legislative session has unanimously passed the Wisconsin State Senate.  Senate Bill 36 makes updates to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s duties, and will align the department’s current practices with state statute.   “Tourism is an important industry in our state. In 2021, the tourism industry had a $20.9 billion economic impact,” said Ballweg. “I am delighted that the legislative session is off to a great start, and that my first bill has passed the Wisconsin State Senate. The tourism industry is crucial to the economic health of the 14th Senate District, and I will continue to do what I can support tourism.”  Senator Ballweg serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Tourism. The committee has already heard from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism this session, and will continue to act on legislation that positively impacts the people and business who make the tourism a successful industry in Wisconsin.
