Bev Kelley-Miller says her daughter Megan would have just turned 30 if she was still alive today. Megan Kelley was 22 years old when she died from a heroin overdose in Appleton in 2015. Kelley-Miller says her daughter was the nicest person anyone would want to meet, always willing to help her friends, and always laughing and telling stories. Kelley-Miller says arresting addicts and putting them in jail is not the answer. She says people should have immunity if they dial 911 for help in the event of an overdose, so they don’t fear calling for help. Kelley-Miller launched the Megan Kelley Foundation in honor and memory of her daughter and to bring awareness to the opioid crisis. A hallmark project of the Foundation is the “Wisconsin Faces of Addiction” Memorial Quilts showing the impact addiction has had on Wisconsin families and communities. The quilt display travels throughout Wisconsin, making a stop in Fond du Lac this past weekend.
