Fond du Lac assistant police chief Steve Klein is retiring. Klein’s last official day on the job was Friday after 30 years of service in the Fond du Lac Police Department. Klein was hired in Fond du Lac in 1993 as a patrol officer. “It truly has been a great honor and priviledge to serve the citizens of Fond du Lac,” Klein told WFDL news. Klein was the first K9 officer in the Department in 1995 with his partner Zieko. In 2013 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police/ Operations.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
