3-30-23 little change in local unemployment rate

There was little or no change in the local unemployment rate in February.   The city of Fond du Lac's unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percent to 2.5 percent.   The Fond du Lac County rate was unchanged at 2.3 percent and the Dodge County jobless rate stands at 2.6 percent, up from 2.5 percent in January.

3-30-23 man charged with firebombing wisconsin anti-abortion office

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Federal prosecutors have charged a man with firebombing a prominent Wisconsin anti-abortion lobbying group's office last year. The U.S. attorney's office in Madison announced that 29-year-old Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury was arrested Tuesday at Boston's Logan International Airport and charged with one count of attempting to cause damage by means of fire or an explosive. 3-30-23 milwaukee house fire kills three

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a house fire in Milwaukee killed three people early Wednesday, including an 83-year-old man. Erich Roden, the deputy chief of the Milwaukee Fire Department, says first responders who were called to the scene at 4:36 a.m. CDT had the fire under control in about 90 minutes. WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A company announced it is recalling a packaged pasta dish sold in HyVee grocery stores in eight Midwestern states. Chester, Illinois-based Gilster-Mary Lee Corp. said Tuesday it was recalling HyVee Hamburger Chili Macaroni Skillet Meals produced at a plant in Steeleville, Illinois, because of undeclared milk in the product. 3-29-23 fdl lakeside park lighthouse drive renovation project starts this week

A major street and parking lot renovation project is getting underway  on  Lighthouse Drive at Fond du Lac's Lakeside Park.   City manager Joe Moore says the project  will begin Wednesday.  The project includes new pavement,  street lighting,  parking stall layout, restoration,  tree plantings  and a new multi-use path.   Vinton Construction has been awarded the contract for the reconstruction project.  The project is scheduled for completion by the end of May.

WHITEWATER, Wis. (AP) — Police say a woman believed to be the mother of a dead newborn child found abandoned in a southern Wisconsin field earlier this month has been arrested.
