4-4-23 oshkosh man sentenced in elder abuse case

An Oshkosh man convicted of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an elderly nursing home resident is going to prison.  Sixty four year old Terry Lynn Culver has been sentenced to three years in prison followed by six years extended supervision.  The court allowed the state to seize Culver’s home to pay restitution owed to the victim’s estate.  Authoritites say Culver stole over $427,000 from a 92-year-old resident of a nursing home while acting as a power of attorney for the victim, spending the money on home improvements, and at bars, restaurants and casinos.   The charges stemmed from  a joint elder abuse and tax fraud investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice and Wisconsin Department of Revenue.  The complaint also alleges that Culver sold multiple pieces of the victim’s real estate, took possession of the victim’s house through a quit claim deed,  and filed false and fraudulent tax returns with the Department of Revenue for five years.
