todayApril 19, 2023

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Senate has voted to double fines and forfeitures for reckless driving. The bipartisan bill will now go before Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, who has said he will sign it into law. The measure is part of a Republican-backed push to crack down on people driving dangerously across the state. They’re especially focused on Milwaukee, where local officials are calling rising reckless driving rates a “crisis.” Under the bill, maximum fines for dangerous driving would increase to $400 for a first offense, and $1,000 for a subsequent offense. Reckless drivers who cause great bodily harm would face a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
