The driver of a semi-tractor trailer was flown by helicopter to the hospital with seriousbut non life-threatening injuries following a crash in Fond du Lac. Shortly before midnight Wednesday rescue personnel were called to East Johnson Street and Wisconsin American Drive where the semi had flipped over. Police Chief Aaron Goldstein says the semi was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Goldstein says the driver was pinned inside the vehicle, suffering from multiple compound fractures. A police officer on the scene used a tourniquet to help stop bleeding, before the driver was transported to the hospital. The crash closed the westbound lanes of traffic at the crash scene for several hours. Excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the location and roundabout appear to be contributing factors.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
