6-30-23 state budget sent to democratic governor tony evers

todayJune 30, 2023

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A two-year spending plan that cuts income taxes, increases funding for K-12 schools and cuts the University of Wisconsin’s budget in a fight over diversity, equity and inclusion programming has been sent to Gov. Tony Evers. The Democratic governor has the power to make changes with his partial veto or to wipe out the entire budget. He is unlikely to do that because it would require lawmakers to start over and scrap aspects of the budget Evers helped craft. Evers hasn’t said yet what he will do. Republicans say the plan addresses the state’s priorities. Democrats call it a missed opportunity.
