MADISON, Wis. -- The numbers are in, and someone in California is the winner of the $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot – the third-largest prize ever awarded in the history of Powerball. 7-20-23 fdl police investigation tci inmate death

Fond du Lac police are investigating the death of an inmate at the Taycheeda Women's Prison.  The state Department of Corrections has confirmed the death of 68 year old Cindy Shulz-Juedes.   According to a press release Juedes was found unresponsive in her cell.  Fond du Lac Police and Fire/Rescue paramedics were called to the scene but efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.  Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has signed a bill that overhauls the way reading is taught in the state. The Republican-authored measure is designed to improve sagging readings scores and emphasizes phonics over memorization. (AP) — Republican Paul Melotik defeated Democrat Bob Tatterson in a special election for a vacant Assembly seat representing Milwaukee’s north suburbs, keeping the district in GOP hands. 7-19-23 villa loretto nursing home in mt. calvary closing

Eight years after joining  Agnesian HealthCare a Mount Calvary nursing home is closing it's doors.   SSM Health says the Villa Loretto nursing home is consolidating operations to  St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac.   SSM Health told WFDL news  the decision was made as  Mt. Calvary's demand for skilled nursing beds has been declining and Villa Loretto is at less than half its 50 bed capacity, coupled with the facility's aging physical plant.  […]
