Several Fond du Lac County Highway reconstruction projects are ongoing heading into the final weeks of August. Fond du Lac County Highway commissioner Tom Janke says projects on state Highways 45 and 26 are underway. Janke says work is also continuing on County Highways SS, B, Y, E and East Pioneer Road between Highway V to Martin Avenue. Meanwhile, Janke says some residents who live in the area are asking the county to consider lowering the 55 mile an hour speed limit on a section of County Highway UU from state Highway 23 to Golf Course Road.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
