Bridget Winterhack knew she hit a good shot when the ball left the tee at the par three third hole at Fond du Lac’s Rolling Meadows Golf Course earlier this week. Winterhack pulled out a nine iron and the ball landed in the cup on the fly for her first hole in one. But what made Winterhack’s ace more special was the fact that her grandfather, 91 year old Jack Nichol, had made a hole in one at The Rock Golf Course in Waupun earlier that same day. Winterhack says for her grandfather, it was his fifth hole in one, all of them coming after retirement. The odds of an amateur making a hole in one is one in 12,500. The odds of two members of the same family making holes in one on the same day…unknown.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
