8-30-23 election deniers rail in wisconsin as state senate moves toward firing top election official

todayAugust 30, 2023

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Election skeptics from across Wisconsin are pushing for the GOP-controlled state Senate to fire the state’s top nonpartisan election official. Onlookers turned out in force at a hearing Tuesday. They are criticizing Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe. Many repeated debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. Some Senate Republicans are trying to force a vote on firing Wolfe, despite the Legislature’s attorneys and the state attorney general saying lawmakers don’t have the authority to do it right now. National experts are concerned about what the outcome could mean for the 2024 election because Wisconsin is a perennial battleground state.
