8-21-23 dodge county sheriff’s office investigating suicide death following domestic incident

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man involved in a domestic incident in Waupun shot and killed himself.  Shortly before 7:30pm Friday Waupun Police were called to a residence in the 100 block of West Brown Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.  A preliminary investigation shows subsequent to officers arriving on scene a man involved in the incident took his own life.  The Sheriff's Office says no officers were involved […]

8-21-23 first human case of west nile virus confirmed in wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services Public Health Madison & Dane County have confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus in a Wisconsin resident this year.  The individual is a resident of Dane County. Cases of West Nile virus have also been reported in three horses in Wisconsin, and several mosquito pools. The horse cases were located in Dunn and Clark counties, and the positive mosquitoes were from Milwaukee and Lafayette counties.

However, surface concentrations continue to be lower than initially anticipated. 8-21-23 hiker who died in fatal fall at devil’s lake state park identified as indiana man

BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — A man who died Tuesday after he fell from a bluff while hiking in a Wisconsin state park has been identified as a 42-year-old from Indiana. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said Thursday that the Sauk County coroner identified the man as 42-year-old Jason Gillum, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. 8-21-23 fdl man gets jail in election fraud case

A fifth defendant arrested for election fraud in Fond du Lac County is going to jail.   Edward Malnar has pleaded guilty to felony Election Fraud, voting in Michigan and Wisconsin in the November 2020 election and obstructing an officer.   Fond du Lac judge Laura Lavey sentenced Malnar to 15 days in jail and a $3500 fine.   Before handing down the  sentence Judge Lavey credited the defendant’s military service in Vietnam but said […]

8-21-23 wisconsin unemployment rate rises in july

Wisconsin's unemployment rate is up slightly in July.   The state Department of Workforce Development say the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.6 percent in July, up from a record low of 2.4 percent in April and May.  Wisconsin's total nonfarm jobs hit a new high of three million, seven-thousand-200, an increase of 4,700 over the previous month.  The national unemployment rate was 3.5 percent last month.
