10-26-23 uw-platteville announces layoffs

Another Wisconsin university has announced major layoffs to reduce budget deficits.  The University of  Wisconsin-Platteville is eliminating 111 positions, or 12% of its workforce.  Sixty employees will be laid off, 31 open positions will be cut and 32 people agreed to a voluntary separation agreement.   Eleven faculty are retiring.   Earlier this month, UW-Oshkosh announced  140 people were being laid off and another 110 positions were being eliminated through early retirements or vacancies to help close […]

10-26-23 wisconsin wildlife officials approve new wolf management plan

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin wildlife officials have signed off on a contentious new wolf management plan that doesn't include a specific population goal. The Department of Natural Resources' policy board voted 7-0 Wednesday to approve the proposal. The DNR adopted a management plan in 1999 that calls for capping the state's wolf population at 350. 10-26-23 local unemployment rate drops

The unemployment rate is down locally,  in all but one Wisconsin county, and every metro area in the state last month.  The September unemployment rate in Dodge County was 2.8 percent, down three-tenths of a percent from August.  In Fond du Lac County the unemployment rate fell from 3.3 to 2.8 percent last month.  The jobless rate in the city of Fond du Lac  dropped six-tenths of a percent to 3.2 percent in September.

10-26-23 fdl school district receives major donation to upgrade playgrounds

The Fond du Lac School District superintendent says a donation to upgrade playground equipment at every elementary school in the district is the largest donation of it's kind in school district history.  Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says the National Exchange Bank Foundation and Barbara and Peter Stone Foundation have donated $1 million for new playground equipment at each elementary school in the district.  Dr. Fleig says groundbreaking is planned for April with the […]

10-26-23 fdl county sheriff’s office continues to investigate school bus crash
