U.S. inflation ticked down again last month, with cheaper gas helping further lighten the weight of consumer price increases. Retired Ripon College economist Paul Schoofs says the inflation data led the Federal Reserve last week to keep its key interest rate unchanged for a third straight time, with the Fed also signaling they expect to make rate cuts in the second half of next year. Meanwhile Schoofs says the longest weekly winning streak on Wall Street in six years is an overreaction.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
