There was little change in the local unemployment rate last month. The Dodge County unemployment rate dipped a tenth of a percent to 2.3 percent in December. The Fond du Lac County rate fell from 2.3 to 2.2 percent. The city of Fond du Lac’s jobless rate in December was 2.8 percent, up from 2.7 percent in November.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
