1-30-24 wisconsin assembly approves bill mandating a limit on wolf population

todayJanuary 29, 2024

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans have sent a bill that would force state wildlife managers to set a firm cap on the state’s wolf population to Gov. Tony Evers. The Assembly approved the bill on a voice vote Thursday. The Senate passed it in October. The bill comes after the state Department of Natural Resources adopted a new wolf management plan in October that didn’t include a hard cap. The plan replaced a plan in place since 1999 that limited the population to 350 wolves. Northern Wisconsin farmers say wolves are devastating their livestock. They have demanded the new plan set a population limit.
