Flu is hanging on in the U.S., intensifying in some areas of the country after weeks of an apparent national decline. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says flu has not peaked yet locally or in Wisconsin, but is getting close. According to the CDC there has been a continued decline in flu hospitalizations, although flu-like illnesses seem to be proliferating in the Midwest. Last week those illnesses were at high levels in 23 states, up from 18 the week before.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
