The principal at Laconia High School says the latest recognition in the U.S. News and World Report Best High Schools in the Nation is a nice surprise even though its not the first time for the school. Laconia High School ranks among the top 40 percent of schools in the nation in the latest report. Principal Diane Raue says at Laconia High School the focus is on every student. US News evaluated approximately 25,000 public high schools across the country. The schools were evaluated on college readiness, test results, underserved student performance, college curriculum offerings and graduation rate.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
