The Fond du Lac School Board has approved a preliminary 2024-25 budget. School District chief of Finance and Operations Mike Gerlach says the budget comes with a looming $5.2 million deficit next year. Gerlach says the main factors behind the deficit are declining enrollment and expiration of federal COVID stimulus funds. Gerlach says next year the school board will have to decide whether to make cuts, go to referendum or a combination to deal with the deficit.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
