The United States has the highest rate of maternal deaths among high income nations. There were about 22 maternal deaths for every 100,000 live births in the United States in 2022, the most recent year for which data was available. That rate was more than double sometimes triple, those seen in most other high-income countries. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says its about a lack of care for women after they give birth. In Norway, zero maternal deaths were recorded.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
