Wisconsin's unemployment rate is up slightly in the latest reporting period.  The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reported Thursday the statewide unemployment rate for July was three percent, up from 2.9 percent in June and 1.3 percent below the national rate of 4.3 percent.  The number of people employed increased 1,300 over the month to a record 3,049,700.

From August 14 through September 2, which includes the Labor Day holiday weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be working alongside local law enforcement for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility enforcement campaign. (AP) — An employee of the Democratic National Committee filed a complaint Wednesday seeking to remove the Green Party's presidential candidate from the ballot in Wisconsin, arguing that the party is ineligible.  It's the latest move by the DNC to block third-party candidates from the ballot. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Nobody was injured in a fire that caused minor damage to a Fond du Lac apartment. Firefighters were called to the scene at 175 South National Avenue early Wednesday morning to find smoke coming from the apartment. The fire was in a plastic garbage container and quickly extinguished. The fire was caused by improper discarding of smoking materials.

A fire Tuesday night was contained to a paint oven at Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac. Plant 15 was evacuated and about 500 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Nobody was injured.
