A gas leak forced the evacuation of several buildings in Waupun Friday night. Shortly after 9pm Friday firefighters responded to a report of a natural gas odor on East Main Street and discovered a gas line and meter had been sheared off. As a precaution all buildings on the north side of Main Street were evacuated and East Main and North Madison Streets were temporarily closed. Alliant Energy was able to control the leak within 30 minutes . People were allowed to return to their residences and businesses a couple hours later. In total 20 people and 20 buildings were impacted. Nobody was injured.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
