7-8-14 wisconsin water quality

todayJuly 8, 2014

A newly released report from the Natural Resources Defense Council says the water quality at Wisconsin beaches is eighth-worst in the nation. Anne Sayers of the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters says this shocking report should be a wake-up call.   The report says Great Lakes beaches are more isolated, relatively speaking, than coastal beaches.  Because they don’t have the water circulation of coastal beaches, it can allow pollutants to stagnate near beaches. According to the report Wisconsin placed 23rd out of the 30 Great Lakes and coastal states. Fourteen percent of the water samples taken from Wisconsin beaches failed to meet the Environmental Protection Agency’s standards for safe beaches.
