10-17-14 marquette law school poll director says governor’s race going down to the wire

todayOctober 17, 2014

The director of the Marquette University Law School poll says the latest numbers show the race for governor is going to be very close.  The poll shows Democrat Mary Burke and Republican governor Scott Walker tied among likely voters.  Poll director Charles Franklin says there’s  an element of how much the race has failed to have either candidate to be able to pull away.   Still Franklin says he believes there is still room for movement in the numbers and for people to shift their turnout intentions.  Franklin says the other interesting thing in the poll is that voters don’t seem to be influenced negatively by Republican accusations that Burke plagerized her jobs plan.  “The plagerism thing that we asked about last time had reached about a little over 50 percent of voters, but they didn’t rate it exceptionally important,”  Franklin told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “Only 17 percent said it made them less likely to support Burke.”  Franklin says two weeks ago the polls showed a dip in Burke’s favorability rating, but that changed in this week’s poll.  “She’s now recovered from that, so I think whatever the plagerism issue did appears to have been short-lived,”  Franklin said.
