The Fond du lac Convention and Visitors Bureau has received a major grant from the state to help market tourism. Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett will present the Bureau on November 19th with a $40,000 grant. Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau chief Craig Molitor says the money will be used to promote winter activities. According to a tourism press release in 2013, the tourism economy in Wisconsin totaled an estimated $17.5 billion, a 4 percent increase over 2012. Total business sales in Fond du Lac County topped $205 million in 2013, supporting nearly 2,500 jobs and $15 million in state and local taxes.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
