Fond du Lac city staff has reviewed site plans for a new student housing facility at UW Fond du Lac. The Villas will be a three story suite style student housing development with 22 suites. Twenty suites will have four bedrooms and two suites will be two bedrooms. The first floor will include an ADA accessible suite, fitness area, social area, study room and office. The Fond du Lac city council last month approved a special use permit for the building. UW FDL Dean John Short says construction is expected to begin next spring. Short says this kind of a housing unit will cater to what students want today including autonomy and privacy. The 84 bed facility will be located on Campus Drive west of University Drive and will be open for the start of next school year.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
