The Fond du Lac County executive says several major projects are slated for the new year. Al Buechel says the county has an accepted offer on land at the corner of Hickory Street and the 151 Bypass for a new county highway garage. Buechel says this year the county will be making sure that property will suit the county’s needs. “We’re testing for environmental contamination, for subsoil issues. You want to make sure you don’t have to excavate too many feet down before you hit solid clay to support the building,” Buechel said. Buechel also says work is expected to wrap up this year on a new Campbellsport highway garage. Buechel says the most expensive project this year is reconstructing a portion of Highway I west of Highway 41 near Eldorado.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
