A Waupun man involved in a nearly six hour armed standoff in Waupun has been charged. Kenneth Becker Jr. made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance Thursday and bail was set at $20,000 cash with conditions not to possess any firearms or have any contact with his ex-girlfriend. But Becker refused to sign the bond form so he is being held in jail without bond. According to a criminal complaint on December 30th Becker had barricaded himself in the home and was threatening to harm himself. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s SWAT team negotiators made contact with Becker and he eventually surrendered without any shots being fired.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
