Jim and Ginny Gilmore are this year’s recipients of the UW-Fond du Lac’s Spirit of Excellence Award. They will be recognized at the university’s annual fundraising dinner, Corks & Forks on March 26. The Gilmores are being honored for their long-time support of UW-Fond du Lac and the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation. Former Sheriff Jim Gilmore was a member of the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation Board of Directors for two terms.. Last year’s winner was Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel. This is the largest fundraiser of the year supporting UW-Fond du Lac student scholarships and the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
