The Fond du Lac County parks director says a new fish cleaning station will be a welcome improvement at Columbia Park…just north of Fond du Lac on Lake Winnebago. The Fond du Lac County board has authorized the county to apply for a DNR grant to pay for half of the $90,000 project. Parks director Sam Tobias says the facility will be a 10 by 20 foot open air shelter. “Its a long time coming,” Tobias told WFDL news. “Its going to benefit our fisherman and also our campers.” Currently anglers who clean their fish at the park dump the waste in a garbage bin…creating a smelly situation especially for campers at the park on hot summer days.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
