Two dogs were killed, but no people were injured as the result of a house fire in Washington County this week. Firefighters responded to a house fire at 8210 Kettleview Drive in the Town of Kewaskum. Sheriff’s deputies as well as fire personnel from Kewaskum, Boltonville and West Bend responded and were on scene for approximately three hours. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department says it’s believed that the fire started as a result of smoking materials igniting a chair. One of the homeowners attempted to extinguish the fire prior to it spreading to a nearby computer desk. After thr attempt, the two homeowners fled the home. The two family dogs died from the dense smoke within the home. The house suffered approximately 225 thousand dollars in damage from some fire damage and extensive smoke damage.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
