Some Fond du Lac students are voluntarily giving up recess to spend more time in the classroom. Diane Thompson is an art teacher at Pier and Riverside Elementary schools in Fond du lac. Thompson says 4th and 5th graders is their school’s art club decided that once a week instead of going outside to play they would rather work on an art project in the classroom. In an era where tight budgets are forcing school districts to cut back Thompson says its important for kids to be able to explore their creativity that they don’t get in other classes.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
