todayMarch 13, 2015

Longtime Fond du Lac Parks superintendent John Kiefer is retiring.  Friday is Keifer’s last day on the job after 25 years of service.  “It will be different next week not having to do this anymore.  I”m not saying I’m having second thoughts, but just apprehension about how to handle it and move on,”  Kiefer told WFDL news.   Kiefer moved to Fond du Lac in 1990 from Wausau where he was the Marathon County Parks director.    Kiefer says he is very proud of Fond du Lac’s park system.  “I might be a little bit biased but I think we have one of the better park systems in the state.”   As a committee discusses potential improvements or enhancements at Lakeside Park, Kiefer says the important thing is not to do something that takes away from what already makes the park the face of Fond du lac.  Responding to people who say they think the park may be under utilized and that more festivals and events are needed.  “For most of the weekends in the summer its already wall to wall people,”  Kiefer said.  “Its very busy in the summertime every weekend.  I don’t know how many more people you can fit in here.”   Parks foreman John Redmond has been hired to replace Kiefer as the city’s new park superintendent.
