A Fond du Lac woman convicted of abusing two children is going to jail. Fond du Lac judge Robert Wirtz placed 46 year old Jeanna Riehl on three years probation with 18 months in the county jail. Riehl pleaded no contest in January to two counts of child abuse. According to a criminal complaint Riehl abused two boys over a period of several years, striking them with a rolling pin, cutting board, horse whip and hunting arrow and locking one of the boys in a bathroom for weeks. Riehl’s husband Troy Riehl was earlier placed on two years probation after pleading no contest to neglecting a child and a deferred prosecution agreement was reached on two felony counts of failing to protect a child.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
