The DNR could start prescribed burns on property across the state this week. DNR spokesman Bob Manwell says nine land parcels in Fond du Lac County are scheduled for prescribed burns and five properties in Dodge County. Manwwell says the controlled burns are a land management technique conservation agencies have used for years. “Each year our biologists take a look at the lands and go through on a roughly two to five year basis and those lands that would benefit from a prescribed burn are put onto the list.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
