The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says a Wisconsin Dells man made up a story that he had been shot after he stopped to helped a stranded motorist. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says an investigation found no corroborating evidence to the claim by 28 year old Jason Raasch. Raasch said he was shot in the abdomen after he stopped to help the occupants of a car parked on the side of Highway 60 last month. Schmidt says other law enforcement agencies also reported incidents in which Raasch reported what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries while telling police he had been the victim of violent crimes. Charges of obstructing an officer have been forwarded to the Dodge County District Attorney.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
