The Fond du lac city council is considering a proposal that would allow Winnebago Lutheran Academy to lease a portion of a city park for school athletic fields. Under terms of the proposed 50 year lease WLA would pay for construction of three athletic fields and a parking lot at McDermott Park. WLA would have first occupancy and use rights to the fields from September through May. The city’s recreation department and public would be able to use the fields during the summer. Any concession facilities would be open to the general public. The city would be responsible for mowing the grass, with WLA responsible for the remaining upkeep and maintenance of the athletic fields and parking lot. WLA will make a presentation at next week’s council meeting.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
