5-13-15 wla says lease proposal is “win-win” for city and school

A Winnebago Lutheran Academy official says it’s a win-win situation for the school and community.  The school is asking the Fond du Lac city council for permission to lease a portion of McDermott Park adjacent to the school to construct three athletic fields and a parking lot.  WLA director of communications and mission advancement pastor John Boggs says the school would pay for construction of two softball diamonds, and a soccer-football practice field north of the tennis courts.  “We’ve been a part of Fond du lac for the past 90 years.  We have a wonderful relationship, our kids work in jobs here in the city, our people that support the school are part of this community,”  Boggs told WFDL news.  “What we would say is this is a win-win for everyone.”    Pastor Boggs says he understands the school is asking for permission to develop existing park land…but he says the school is already using that property now and the public would still have access to it.  “We are not aware that there were any plans to improve the property at McDermott.  We’re offering to come in and to take the cost of improving that property,”  Boggs said.  “That’s going to help rec league baseball, and softball games.  We’re going to go in and engineer it, add additonal parking and will incur all of that cost.”
